Medical tube and bar solutions

Tube & pipe

Seven strengths. One purpose. MedTech alloys for enhancing life.

For over 40 years, we’ve partnered with medical device manufacturers to deliver the metallurgical expertise and high-quality alloys their innovations rely on. First as Sandvik Bioline, and for the past four years as Alleima, we continue to advance precision tube and bar for life-critical applications.

Fully integrated quality control

Every medical grade alloy is produced in a certified, fully integrated production process, ensuring complete traceability – from melt to final tube or bar.

Globally trusted medical grades

Our tube and bar products are globally recognized by medical device and implant manufacturers for their outstanding performance, built on seven key material characteristics:

To handle the body’s chloride-rich environment, our stainless-steel medical grades combine optimized chemistry with high material cleanliness to resist pitting and crevice corrosion attacks. The outcome is stable, reliable in-vivo performance with reduced risk of long-term degradation.

Alleima’s medical grades set a high standard, offering inclusion levels far below ISO 5832-1 and 5832-9 limits, minimizing sulfides, oxides, silicates and aluminates. This micro-cleanliness supports corrosion resistance, mechanical reliability, and long-term implant safety.

A fully austenitic microstructure and controlled chemistry keep magnetic permeability consistently low. Alleima’s grades remain non-magnetic during MRI, supporting patient safety, preventing image distortion, and eliminate the need for specialized scanning protocols.

Engineered for orthopedic loading, our medical grades offer high strength, toughness and fatigue resistance. Ultra-low oxygen and sulfur levels reduce crack initiation in cyclical loading environments like femoral implants. The result is durable performance and the option for thinner implant designs.

High ductility supports complex, high-precision forming, bending and machining without microcracking. This ensures efficient processing, high yields, and consistent quality across demanding implant geometries.

Stable material behavior and low inclusion levels support very precise machining and smooth surface finishes. Manufacturers benefit with shorter cycle times, reduced tool wear, and reliable, high-quality output across complex implant components.

With cobalt now restricted to ≤0.1% under EU MDR, Alleima provides low-cobalt stainless steel grades that meet current regulations without compromising performance. This ensures dependable material selection, smoother compliance, and long-term market confidence.

Two grades in high demand

To meet the demands of medical professionals and device manufacturers worldwide, we continue to strengthen and grow our medical tube and bar portfolio. Today, Alleima offers a variety of advanced materials and two stand out for their exceptional performance, mainly in orthopedic applications – Alleima® High-N (UNS: S31675) and Alleima® 316LVM (UNS: S31673).

Alleima® 316LVM (UNS: S31673) is a vacuum remelted, molybdenum alloyed, austenitic stainless steel, used for orthopedic implants in trauma therapy.

The grade is characterized by:

  • Good mechanical strength
  • Good fatigue strength
  • Excellent micro-cleanliness
  • Excellent structural homogeneity
  • High surface finish

Alleima® High-N (UNS: S31675) is a molybdenum and nitrogen alloyed austenitic stainless steel, used for orthopedic implants and fracture fixation devices.

The grade is characterized by:

  • Proof strength is up to twice that of Alleima® 316LVM in the annealed condition
  • Higher corrosion resistance than Alleima® 316LVM
  • High micro-cleanliness
  • Very good surface finish
  • Good forgeability
  • Low magnetic permeability
