Around the world and across a wide range of industries, corrosion prevention is a key challenge. Corrosion can be a major inhibitor to process and efficiency improvements and carries an extreme cost to industries.

A study from NACE International estimates the global cost of corrosion as $2.5 trillion. Advanced materials that can increase corrosion protection for tubing can play a critical role in bringing down repair and maintenance costs. That can drive measurable performance advantages for corrosion-impacted industries like energy, refining, chemicals, petrochemicals, and power generation.

Traditionally, some industries have had a conservative approach to material selection for corrosion prevention. But today, more operators and service companies recognize the high impact corrosion can have on total asset lifecycle costs and even premature failure. That means there’s a greater appetite nowadays for considering advanced material solutions.

A progressive partner

At Alleima, we’re fascinated by what you need to be at your best to prevent corrosion. The more we help move you forward, the more we learn and progress ourselves. Our R&D, technical marketing, and local sales teams work together to constantly develop innovative products that accelerate your possibilities.

From advanced heat exchanger tubes and high-temperature tubes to composite tubes and bar material in high alloyed grades, we push products and processes to be more efficient, more profitable, and more sustainable.

Sharing our corrosion expertise at AMPP Italy

Corrosion prevention was the major discussion point at the recent AMPP Italy Conference and Expo. It was well attended and was a great opportunity for us to share our products and expertise in different applications with existing and potential customers.

We held a presentation on the benefits of our increasingly popular award-winning super-austenitic stainless steel alloy Sanicro® 35 for renewable refineries. Sanicro® 35 offers the best of both worlds between standard duplex or austenitic grades and nickel alloys, designed to service even the most aggressive corrosive environments.

We also discussed our new SAF™3006 a duplex stainless steel grade, engineered to enhance corrosion resistance in harsh acid and caustic environments like chemical and petrochemical heat exchangers while maintaining cost-efficiency.

A key focus at AMPP Italy was corrosion prediction and prevention in renewable energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) applications. Alleima is already delivering material solutions to these markets through our strong product portfolio and corrosion expertise. However, we always learn from such events. They help us stay up to date with the latest developments.

Choosing the right materials for corrosive CCS applications is critical. Together with our Alliance partner Tenaris, we received an order for a major CCS project and we work closely with companies to test alloys for corrosion resistance in CCS conditions.

Where can we take you next?

For more than 160 years we’ve been delivering the absolute best in advanced materials technology to our customers around the world. Our unique portfolio of grades has always set industry standards, pushing possibilities through innovation to deliver cost-efficient alloys that challenge convention and move our customers forward. It’s what sets us apart. Because when we advance, so do you.
