The hydrogen and green steel industries are accelerating. Many companies have targets to decarbonize operations as they move toward net zero emissions goals. Demand for decarbonization certificates from end users is now well-established and growing.

Choosing the right materials and equipment that can withstand exposure to hydrogen will be part of the industry’s advance. However, the pace of decarbonization is uneven. More must be done to accelerate sustainability, and quickly.

At Alleima, our commitment to greener steel production and materials for hydrogen applications is long-standing. Sustainability is present in all aspects of our operations. We use 80% recycled material and more than 96% fossil-free electricity in our sites. But we’re always pushing to accelerate our sustainability ambitions.

That’s why Life Cycle Assessment LCA) is important to us and our customers. For Alleima, LCA helps us better identify and reduce emissions hotspots. When it comes to our customers, we provide information to help them understand clearly the carbon footprint of our products. It helps them advance their emissions targets and make more informed decisions when buying materials with a low carbon footprint.

Today, many customers require LCA. It’s not only a measure of environmental accountability and regulatory compliance; LCA can offer a competitive advantage in supporting sustainability.

Alleima at this year’s Hydrogen Tech World & Green Steel World

Forging a sustainable future was one of the key themes at this year’s Hydrogen Tech World & Green Steel World exhibition and conference in Essen, Germany.

The event, attended by Alleima and our division Kanthal, brought together green steel and hydrogen experts from across the globe, providing a platform to connect with users and manufacturers involved in the steel industry’s journey to decarbonization.

It was an opportunity to showcase our impressive range of hydraulic and instrumentation tubing, high-temperature tube and heat exchanger tubing, u-bend tubes, coated strip steel coil, and hollow and solid bar materials. Our products generated lots of interest on our stand and play a vital role in advancing sustainability for our customers in the steel industry. There was high interest in the development of our LCA, too.

We held two popular presentations at the event. Alleima Technical and Marketing Specialist Angela Philipp talked about materials for hydrogen applications and compared properties based on chemical compositions. Dilip Chandrasekaran, SVP, Director of Business Development, Kanthal, discussed the electrification of heating processes in steel.

Alleima has developed a range of products and solutions for the renewables sector including our unique mobile on-site tubing solution. For the biofuel industry, Alleima envisions a future of clean, high-performing fuels for cars, trucks, and even aircraft. Whether it’s HEFA/ HVO (hydroprocessed esters & fatty acids) or Fisher Tropsch, alcohol to jet, or synthetic fuel (CO2 to liquid fuel).

A progressive partner in the steel industry

At Alleima, we believe that when we advance, so do our partners. We constantly innovate to create high-quality products that drive progress in tubular products for applications such as hydrogen, concentrated solar power, carbon capture and storage, geothermal energy, and bioenergy.

But that’s not a new trend for us. With over 160 years of experience, continuously evolving materials is what we do.
