Alleima is committed to advancing industries through materials technology. That’s why we were proud to host delegates from the Materials Technology Institute at our Chomutov facility near Prague in the Czech Republic.
The delegates were in Prague to attend the MTI’s European Technical Advisory Council meeting (EuroTAC) so, we took the opportunity to separately organize a tour of our Chomutov mill
It was a privilege to welcome such a knowledgeable group of materials professionals for an inside look at our tube cold-working facility. From the Mill, production floor to a shared lunch, we were able to exchange insights with our guests and showcase how our expertise in precision manufacturing and how it supports critical industries around the world.
Technology leader
Our manufacturing facilities in Chomutov produce some of the highest quality hydraulic and instrumentation (H&I) tubing and subsea umbilical tubing and have been critical to our success over many years.
Our guests were impressed by the complexity and variety of the production steps required to manufacture our industry-leading tubes, including melting, bar production, and extrusion.
Sustainability was a key discussion topic and many of the delegates were keen to understand more about our CO2 emissions targets and initiatives.
When we advance, so do our partners
During the day we delivered various presentations on different topics, which generated lively and insightful debate and were well received.
Jonas Höwing, Technical Marketing Specialist EMEA Nordics, shared results from welding trials for our new high-alloy duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel SAF™ 3006 - designed specifically for heat exchangers within the chemical and petrochemical industries.
Eva Lindh-Ulmgren, Head of Research & Development for our Tube division, discussed our world-leading R&D in materials and process technology.
Barinder Ghai, Director - Technical Marketing and New Business Development EMEA, focused on our advances in life cycle assessment (LCA) and sustainability.
Petr Janoušek, General Manager, presented the capabilities at our Chomutov facility and its history.
Material perfection
We received positive feedback from the MTI delegates about the tour, the high quality of our products, and our clean and well-organized tube mill. Comments included:
“Everything was very well organized, and we were welcomed as real VIPs. The presentations were interesting, and the plant tour showed modern equipment and people dedicated to their work. I learned that many more steps and operations are required to make the small diameter tubes than I thought.”
Another said:
“The Alleima mill tour impressed me with a highly sophisticated and integrated fabrication process for seamless tubes made of high-alloyed materials. The state-of-the-art factory included nearly everything that could be expected for such processes, like heat treatment, NDE, welding, online x-ray of weld seams, and pressure tests. I was especially impressed by the fact that up to 2" diameter tubes are coiled for transportation, allowing a compact packing of several kilometers of tube in one piece.”
The expertise of our team was also rightly recognized.
“The mill tour and presentations were well coordinated. I value the fact that I was able to see every aspect of your production process. The guides were knowledgeable. I especially appreciated that we were allowed to remain in a production area until production began so we could witness it. Thank you again!”
We welcome the opportunity to connect in person with the MTI delegates and look forward to continued collaboration with the Materials Technology Institute network.
