Project introduction - the world’s most energy-efficient thermal power unit
The Shenergy Pingshan Power Plant (SPPP) Phase II 1350MW (megawatt) sets the standard for energy saving and emissions reduction.
The dual-shaft double reheat generating unit with a high and low arrangement raises steam temperatures in single and double reheat to 630°C. Energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies have been adopted. The unit’s expected coal consumption to power supply is 251g/kWh. This greatly enhances the economy of several load units. Ensuring safety, efficiency, and stable operations.
Full-load efficiency can currently reach 48.92. Making it the most efficient and cleanest super-critical coal-fired power generating unit in the world. It lays a solid foundation for the goal set by the National Energy Administration in China to “strive for a net efficiency over 50% in coal-fired power generation in terms of clean combustion of coal and efficient power generation by 2030”.

Sanicro® 25 is an austenitic stainless steel designed for clean and efficient coal-fired power plant boilers. It has extremely high creep resistance, excellent oxidation resistance and structural stability, and sound machinability and weldability. It can withstand temperatures of up to 700°C and higher pressures, such as 35 MPa (5,000 psi). This allows our customers to boost the efficiency of ultra-supercritical boilers safely and reliably.
An innovative product to propel energy-saving and emission reduction
Sanicro® 25 was officially launched in 2016 in China and has been used in several landmark projects, including boiler tubes for the high-temperature sub-critical Xuzhou project.
Introduction to the High-temperature Sub-critical Xuzhou project:
Following the state Action Plan 2014-2020 for Upgrading and Transforming Coal Power Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction, Shanghai Shenergy Power Technology Co., Ltd. proposed the “600°C Sub-critical Unit Heating Transformation Technology”. This aims to reduce coal consumption further and maintain the long-term efficient operation of the unit, alongside benefits including lower unit starting energy consumption and operating costs.
Sanicro® 25 was successfully used in the 320MW sub-critical unit of the Xuzhou power plant. Third-party tests revealed a reduction of more than 35g/kWh of coal consumption for power supply.
