At Alleima, Strategic Research is at the heart of our operations, supporting our three divisions: Tube, Strip, and Kanthal. Our Mechanical Metallography and Corrosion unit, a key part of Strategic Research, excels in mechanical testing, heat treatment, and corrosion. We deliver high-quality test results, innovate new and existing test methods, and actively participate in research and development projects. Our methods range from standardized tests to proprietary complex methods.
The assignment
The assignment focuses on fatigue testing of components made of high-performance steels. You will learn about a special fatigue testing method and equipment and carry out tests on different specimens and materials to benchmark the test method and map its capabilities. You will perform both experimental, hands-on work, as well as theoretical work and data analysis. By the end of the assignment, you will have gained hands-on experience with a new testing method, expanded your knowledge of fatigue of metals, and improved your technical understanding.

Your profile
We are looking for a master’s student in Materials Science, Applied Physics or Mechanical Engineering with a strong interest in metallurgy and materials development. You have knowledge of the relationship between structure and properties in steels and alloys, as well as a solid understanding of solid mechanics. Knowledge from courses or previous experience within electronics and electrical devices, such as sensors, data acquisition and computers in general, is considered beneficial. Good written and spoken communication skills in Swedish and/or English are required.
Your personal qualities are essential for this role. We are looking for someone with strong technical and engineering skills who enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a team-oriented environment. You are creative, adaptable and curious, with the ability to approach challenges from different perspectives and find practical solutions. To succeed in this thesis project, you take responsibility for your work, show accountability in your assignments and have a structured, problem-solving mindset.
