Are you interested in combining advanced materials science, simulation, and data-driven modeling to solve real industrial challenges?

At Alleima, we are looking for a motivated Master’s thesis student to help develop accurate models for predicting forces in hot working processes, which is a key to producing high-performance stainless steels and special alloys.

About the Thesis

Hot working is at the core of our production of tubes, bars, and strip. Processes such as rolling, forging, and extrusion shape materials while simultaneously refining their microstructure through thermo-mechanical processing. To ensure optimal product quality and efficient production, we rely on accurate models that can predict process forces, temperature windows, and feasible reductions.

The main goal of this thesis is to develop and improve models for predicting process forces during hot working. A central part of the work will be to:

  • Use measured industrial process data to fit and validate analytical models

  • Develop or calibrate flow stress models, which are essential inputs for force predictions

About You

We are looking for a curious and motivated Master’s student in Engineering Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field, who is eager to apply theoretical knowledge to real industrial challenges. You have an interest in modelling, simulation or data analysis, and enjoy exploring how programming, for example in Python or MATLAB, can be used to understand and solve complex problems. An interest in how materials behave, especially in connection to industrial processes and advanced materials, will help you thrive in this thesis project.

You communicate effectively in English, and knowledge of Swedish is considered a plus. As a person, you are analytical, engaged and willing to learn, with a genuine curiosity for technology, materials and problem-solving. We value your personal qualities highly and believe that a proactive mindset, collaboration skills and the ability to take responsibility will be important for a successful thesis experience with us.

The location for this project is in Sandviken, Sweden. If needed we will help you with housing during your time.
