R&D

At Alleima, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in materials technology and sustainable innovation. We are now looking for an ambitious and driven master’s student to join our dynamic R&D team for a thesis project that contributes to the future of renewable energy.

About the Thesis

Are you passionate about materials science, high-temperature alloys, and advanced manufacturing technologies? This thesis project focuses on understanding the diffusion behavior and structural stability in the bonding zone of advanced composite metallic tubes, which are key components for demanding industrial applications.

You will be part of an R&D team working on the development of next-generation composite tube materials, where two different alloys are combined through a metallurgical bond. The project aims to improve the understanding of how diffusion, phase transformations, and microstructural evolution influence the integrity and long-term performance of the bonding zone.

The scope of the project includes:

  • Experimental investigation of diffusion mechanisms and microstructural evolution in the bonding zone

  • Mechanical characterization of the bond (e.g. hardness, and deformation behavior)

  • Microstructural analysis using techniques such as optical microscopy and SEM

  • Thermodynamic and kinetic modelling using tools such as Thermo-Calc and DICTRA to interpret and correlate experimental results

  • Evaluation of the relationship between processing, structure, and properties to support future material and product development

This assignment will involve hands-on laboratory work, data analysis, and modelling. It provides a unique opportunity to combine experimental and computational approaches in a real industrial product development environment and contribute to the advancement of high-performance composite materials.

About You

We are looking for a Master’s student in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related field with a strong interest in material properties and product development.

You have a solid understanding of materials characterization and are comfortable working in a laboratory environment. Experience with mechanical testing and microstructural analysis techniques such as SEM is highly valuable. Knowledge of thermodynamic and kinetic simulation tools such as Thermo-Calc and DICTRA is considered a strong advantage.

You are analytical, curious, and motivated by solving complex materials problems. You have a structured way of working and enjoy combining experimental work with modelling and data analysis. As this project is carried out in a collaborative international environment, you communicate effectively in English; knowledge of Swedish is a plus.

We value your personal qualities highly — you are proactive, collaborative, and eager to learn. You enjoy both working independently and contributing as part of a team. If you are excited about applying your knowledge to real industrial challenges and contributing to the development of advanced materials, this thesis is an excellent opportunity.

The location for this project is in Sandviken, Sweden. If needed we will help you with housing during your time.
