Alleima has received a silver medal from EcoVadis, a leading provider of corporate sustainability assessments, for its sustainability performance. Our result places us in the 91st percentile, meaning that our result ranks us better than 91% of the companies assessed by EcoVadis.
EcoVadis is one of the world’s most trusted providers of business sustainability ratings, intelligence, and collaborative performance improvement tools for global supply chains. To date, EcoVadis has rated over 85,000 companies globally.
“Sustainability is present in all aspects of our operations and is an integral part of our commercial strategy. The silver medal is an important quality mark of our efforts”, says Göran Björkman, President and CEO of Alleima.
Alleima has a relatively low climate footprint from operations due to the use of recycled steel (~83%) and fossil-free electricity in production facilities and is committed to minimizing its social and environmental impact through reducing its water usage, careful chemical management, and effective use of by-products such as slag, dust, and process gases.
The methodology used by EcoVadis is based on international sustainability standards and supervised by a scientific community of sustainability and supply chain experts. In particular, EcoVadis looks at how companies implement sustainability across their supply chain.
“In our initial assessment, we conducted a comprehensive survey in the areas of environmental sustainability, social sustainability, and corporate governance. This will be of great value to our customers”, explains Johnny Ulander, Sustainability Manager at Alleima.
The assessment examines various components of sustainability management. Examples include policies and reporting, while aspects such as the environment, and labor and human rights represent key focal points.
“EcoVadis is an important tool for us when evaluating sustainability aspects among suppliers in the value chain. Our silver medal provides an opportunity for our customers to evaluate us in the same way”, Ulander continues.
When looking into the details, Alleima has achieved the best score in sustainable procurement, followed by the score in the environment.
"It is clear that we are not dealing with any significant weaknesses but rather an opportunity to continuously improve our already robust processes”, Ulander ends.
