OCTG stands for “Oil Country Tubular Goods,” a family of metal tube or pipe used for both onshore and offshore oil and gas production. Designed to resist corrosion, high pressures and temperatures and ensure strength and durability, OCTG includes casing, tubing, liners and couplings for downhole applications.
More recently, OCTG has become critical in supporting safe and efficient carbon dioxide storage underground. “Carbon Capture and Underground Storage” or CCS, is a new application where OCTG is used for the injection of the compressed carbon dioxide deep under the ground or sea floor and into old, depleted oil wells.
Alleima has a strategic alliance with Tenaris, a world leader in premium threaded connections, for threading of our plain end pipes and couplings for delivery to end-users. To ensure the highest quality OCTG and CCS products, Alleima holds API -Q1 and -5CRA certificates for all major corrosion resistant alloys used by these industries. Only the highest quality products can withstand the extreme conditions, high pressures, and corrosive environments encountered during the drilling and production operations where our products are used.
Material challenges associated with the OCTG range of products include:
- Corrosion: OCTG pipes are often exposed to corrosive environments, which can lead to cracking or degradation over time, reducing their lifespan and structural integrity when inferior products are used
- Mechanical stress: During installation and production operations, OCTG pipes are subjected to high mechanical stresses, including tension, compression, and bending. These stresses can lead to fatigue and failure when not properly managed. It is also important that the selected material’s properties can cope with these loads, and do not have defects or other problems associated with low quality.
Alleima OCTG
Our product portfolio includes downhole casing and production tubing in Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) such as duplex stainless steels and austenitic Fe- and Ni-base alloys, Groups 2, 3 and 4, API 5 CRA /ISO 13680. These materials are ideal for coping with the aggressive environments found in wells sour from hydrogen sulfide, with high levels of chlorides, carbon dioxide or other corrosive compounds.
Predominantly, downhole casing and tubing material from Alleima is supplied in the cold-worked condition to ensure high strength and weight effective design solutions. Alleima carries five grade alternatives for plain end pipe for downhole casing, production tubing and coupling stock.

SAF™ 2205 (22Cr, UNS S31803/ S32205) |
SAF™ 2205 / 22Cr is a duplex stainless steel, which is resistant to CO2 -corrosion and to sour corrosion at low partial pressures of H2S. |
SAF™ 2507 (25Cr, UNS S32750) |
SAF™ 2507 / 25Cr is a super-duplex stainless steel similar to SAF™ 2205 / 22Cr, but with slightly improved H2S resistance and significantly higher resistance to chloride-induced corrosion. |
SAF™ 3207 HD (UNS S33207) | SAF™ 3207 HD is a hyper-duplex stainless steel with exceptional strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and chloride containing environments. |
Sanicro® 28 (UNS N08028) |
Sanicro® 28 is a high alloy stainless steel comparable with Alloy 825. It has excellent resistance to corrosion in severe downhole environments, especially to high partial pressures of H2S and high chloride contents. |
Sanicro® 29 | For very high chloride contents in combination with high partial pressures of H2S. Sanicro® 29 provides even better resistance to localized corrosion and sulfide stress cracking compared to Sanicro® 28. |
Sanicro® 48 | As an austenitic nickel-base alloy for highly corrosive OCTG downhole applications, Sanicro® 48 is characterized by its excellent resistance to sulfide stress cracking, stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride, and sour (H2S/Cl) environments and its very high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. |
