We are committed to improving the communities where we live and work and are determined to do what we can toward net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, as the sustainability leader in our industry.
Hence, Alleima has committed to set targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative, and to becoming a net-zero carbon emissions company by 2050 at the latest.
In the short term, we have set ambitious targets of achieving a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and 83% recycled steel in finished products by 2030.
We actively work to make our processes safe for our workers and the environment, and our advanced materials contribute to meeting challenges in the energy transition. We are committed to using our expertise to help customers build resilient sustainable business and operation models. Our product offerings contribute to increased productivity, more efficient energy production, and lighter materials and tackle the material challenges of the future.
In APAC, our regional operations in India and China continuously work towards reducing the environmental impact.
In India, 282,000 liters of pickling acidic wastewater have been treated and recycled for industrial tube cleaning, while 69,000 liters of domestic wastewater have been treated and reused.
Alleima is one of six leading Swedish companies that are part of the India-Sweden Green Transition Partnership (ISGTP), which launched in November 2022. The objective of ISGTP is to provide an exchange of green technologies and expertise as well as to foster innovation across prioritized industry sectors in both countries. Under this partnership, Alleima, together with other Swedish companies in India, will work with our local counterparts across cement, iron and steel and automotive sectors to collectively build a strong, green, and clean future. This partnership exemplifies our position of being at the forefront of driving sustainability through our product offerings.
In China, employees at our Alleima Tube Plant planted more than 60 saplings on Arbor Day. The green area of 30,000 square meters has nearly 140 outdoor trees, bringing beauty to the space and contributing to environmental protection.
The following year – in 2022 – the title “Municipal Green Factory” was awarded to Alleima China. This recognition, which is valid for three years, positions Alleima as a market leader in green manufacturing, recognizing our response to climate change, efficiency in using energy resources and continuous search for growth opportunities. Today, we have achieved our goal to attain the Level 2 – Province level certification.
Overall in Asia, our operations in China and India currently operate on 100% renewable electricity as part of our carbon emissions reduction efforts. Our efforts are significant to the bigger commitment we have made to tackle climate impact globally. As a sustainability frontrunner with ambitious goals for the future, we at Alleima will be continuously taking action to bridge gaps for the greater good of the environment and our customers.
