This presentation will discuss the effects of several welding variables on weld microstructure and geometry. Review of variables will include heat input, interpass temperature control, filler wire composition, shielding gas composition, and cooling rate. Topics of interest will include impact on ferrite composition in the HAZ, secondary phase growth, bulk phase percentage, microstructure at the fusion zone boundary, and overall weld geometry.
