In India, as a part of our corporate social responsibility, we have launched plastic waste collection campaigns to raise awareness about the issue, and minimize pollution.

World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the UnitedWaste Segregation.jpg Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is celebrated by millions of people across the world. This year's theme is "Solutions to plastic pollution"

Plastic waste collection in India

As one focus area in our community engagement initiatives in India, we have launched projects to minimize plastic waste.

In Gujarat, door-to-door visits have been conducted to all households in the village by an e-rickshaw to collect plastic waste. In addition, plastic has been collected on the public roads within these villages. When 1000 kilos have been collected, it gets recycled.

A freebie is given in exchange of every kilogram of plastic collected from a household.

The objective of the project is to beat plastic pollution in the regions, and to raise awareness about the issue, thereby promoting environmental conservation.

Already, the impact of this initiative has been remarkable. The villages have witnessed a significant reduction in visible garbage and litter on the public roads and within the communities. The villagers have received this initiative very well and are active participants.

Lake restorations and awareness program

Other great initiatives are in Hosur, where Alleima division Kanthal has launched a lake restoration project focusing on clearing plastic waste in the lake and surrounding area.

And in Pune, where we have been closely working with over 250 schools on awareness programs around sustainable waste management. The plastic waste collected under this initiative is consistently donated to an agency called Rudra, which uses it for the manufacture of polyvinyl fuel, thus promoting the concept of the circular economy.

We are proud to join the UN in tackling plastic pollution and to build awareness that people’s actions on plastic pollution matter.
