High-performance stainless steel for safe, durable medical implants

Medical implants in orthopaedic, cardiovascular, and dental applications face extreme conditions inside the human body, constant mechanical loads and a chemically aggressive environment.
To remain safe and reliable over a patient’s lifetime, materials must be biocompatible, stable, strong, fatigue- and corrosion-resistant, and highly durable. Failures can lead to fractures, wear debris that causes inflammation, or corrosion that releases harmful ions.
We develop high-purity stainless steels engineered to meet these demands and ensure long-term implant performance.

Why instrument quality defines surgical success

Surgery is one of the foundational pillars of modern medicine. Each procedure demands precision, not only from the surgeon’s skill, but also from the instruments in their hands. We know that the quality and reliability of these instruments start with the steel they are made from.

Defects such as burrs and cracks can compromise safety, function, and longevity. That’s why the purity, hardness, and corrosion resistance of the steel play a decisive role in both patient safety and surgical success.

Alleima presents new strategic research initiative in Sandviken

Thermal spraying is an advanced manufacturing method in which material in powder or wire form is melted and sprayed onto a surface to create a coating with specific properties. Alleima is now investing in this technology to develop new products in the field of sustainable energy. For example, the technology can be used in the production of components for green hydrogen through electrolyzers. Alleima is already in dialogue with several interested customers, and the first prototype of the coated material has already been sent to a customer.
