Kanthal (Alleima) designs and manufactures "custom" high temperature electric heating equipment and control systems for industrial applications up to 1800C including ceramics and glass, chemical & mineral processing, non-ferrous metals, aerospace & electronics. Designs include box, elevator, top hat, car bottom, rotary tube calciners, & crucible furnaces. Processes include firing/sintering, de-binding, melting, & annealing. Kanthal also manufactures metallic resistance heating elements and provides other types of elements for industrial heating applications. Kanthal has complete design and fabricating capabilities for new equipment or for redesigns and upgrades.

This position is in Concord, North Carolina

Key performance areas

Design and detail custom furnace equipment and heating systems to satisfy customer specifications, using sound engineering principles and company design philosophy.

Analyze existing company designs continuously improving product supplied.

Proficient in SolidWorks to develop models and drawings of new products.

Develop bills of material and standard routings in ERP system (Made-to-Manage) to facilitate procurement of material and assist production.

Support manufacturing and production staff in the fabrication and assembly of custom equipment and existing production contracts.

Support Sales force in developing preliminary plans and technical documentation.

Maintain and improve engineering record keeping for future referencing.

Coordinate with other engineers and management to ensure production schedules and budgets are maintained.

Provide telephone support to end users and field service personnel regarding operation, configuration, and maintenance of equipment.

Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility and practicality of design or application.

Prepare technical reports for engineering / management personnel for long and short-term planning and or for use by marketing personnel in technical support applications.

Develop and provides technical documentation.

About you

We are looking for a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a four-year college or university with ten plus years’ experience in a design and manufacturing company. Minimum of 3 years’ experience (5+ preferred) with heating systems and high temperature environments is preferred. Ability to perform and verify necessary calculations for system function (power, resistance, voltage etc.). Basic electrical and control system knowledge; must be able to read and interpret control diagrams. Understanding and working knowledge of electrical connections and phases (delta, wye, single phase, three phase etc.). Proficient in SolidWorks, high level of experience with creating equipment models along with assembly drawings, part/detail drawings, BOMs, weldments and using toolbox and PDM. Knowledge and comprehension of engineering drafting standards including the use of weld symbols. CNC programming experience preferred (3 axis machines) with knowledge of 5-axis machines beneficial. Bonus if candidate can aid in integrating Autodesk Inventor CAD models to SolidWorks. Experience creating part numbers, BOMs and routings in an ERP system.

Must be able to handle complex projects and prioritize them accordingly. You have strong analytical, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills while being persistent in finding solutions.
