Wye pieces

Hot isostatic pressed (HIP) products

We supply wye pieces produced by hot isostatic pressing (PM HIP). By using wye pieces produced by PM HIP, weight can be reduced significantly compared to wye pieces produced by casting or forging.

Wye pieces

Excellent resistance to HISC

By using pure duplex, super-duplex or nickel alloy powder and powder metallurgically based hot isostatic pressing (PM HIP), our wye pieces produced by PM HIP have excellent resistance to corrosion and hydrogen-induced stress cracking (HISC). Our HIP products' resistance to HISC is documented in DNV RP-F112.

Case in brief

A large subsea wye piece in UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel was a challenging order, requiring a great deal of design work, stress analysis and 3D finite element analysis.

40% weight reduction

If made conventionally by casting or forging, the piece would have been oversized and likely weighed some 3.5 tonnes to withstand the 250 bar design pressure. But powder metallurgically based hot isostatic pressing (PM HIP) allows for a significant degree of optimization, and the finished piece weighed only 2 tonnes. This means that a 40% weight reduction was achieved on the wye piece using hot isostatic pressing (HIP).
